Foundation for People Empowerment works towards development of the society through the use Information and Communication Technology (ICT). Currently, the organization has been working towards awareness of ICT tools among the civil society organizations and empowering them with hands-on training. The organization offers technical support and trainings.

Convergence of technology for enhancement of human capacity.

Mission:

  • Serve as a platform for expression of ideas, and observance of common faith and belief among the people
  • Create awareness about common issues facing the people of the region
  • Connect the people from the northeast living around the world
  • Encourage people’s participation in socio-economic development processes
  • Ensure capacity building through civic rights and responsibilities
  • Promote citizen journalism
  • Conduct research on various socio-economic issues
  • Evolve socio-economic development programmes
  • Documentation of the processes of social emancipation

 

Board of Trustees:

Babul Gogoi is a hobbyist-turned-professional. He has been working with the Internet since late 90’s. Among many other things, he was pioneer in setting up of the 1st website of Assam – Assam Portal (www.assam.org). He has worked with many voluntary organisations on ICT based solutions development and capacity building. Currently, he has been working towards popularizing Citizen Journalism in the North East. He has been awarded an individual fellowship by Foundation for Social Transformation (FST) on ‘Promotion of citizen journalism through ICT in the North East’, as his involvement with Assam Times (www.assamtimes.org) a CJ portal. He is also an editor of the magazine ‘Posoowa’ (www.posoowa.org).

Bitopan Borborah is a leading Journalist, film critic & filmmaker of Assam. An award-winning writer, he has authored 3 acclaimed short story compilations and 2 popular novels. He had undergone a film appreciation course at FTII in 1995. Since then he has been writing on film in various newspapers. A member of the regional script committee of National Film Finance Development Corporation, India (NFDC), he was in the FIPRESCI jury in the 9th International Film Festival, Mumbai in 2007 and in Pusan International Festival, South Korea in 2008. A past fellow of Minstry of Culture, Govt. of India, Bitopan also heads a leading film society ‘CineASA’.

Utpal Baruah has been actively associated with the journalistic world in various capacities over the last 21 years. He started his carrier with an Assamese weekly (Budhbar) as a photo correspondent from Nagaon. Since then he has worked with various local, national and international media organizations. Presently, he has been heading UB Photos, a news photo and television visuals service provider and audio-visual production house. He has produced and directed several documentaries on wildlife for Doordarshan Kendra Guwahati and PPC, Northeast.

Dr Samiran Malla Buzarbaruah is a member of Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBOSE). He is the vocational member to the State Academic Committee and Examination Committee, MBOSE; piloting a project on establishment of Independent Institute of Vocational Education / Center of Excellence at Umsning, Ri-Bhoi District. He is working for the promotion of Vocational Education in North Eastern region.. Dr Buzarbaruah had done his graduation in Veterinary (specialization in Poultry Science).

Diganta Gogoi is currently in-charge of Director, Jan Shikshan Sansthan, Jorhat (under Department of Elementary Education and Literacy, Ministry of Human Resource Development). He had previously held several positions in civil society organizations and government agencies. Diganta has done his Masters in Social Work.

Maulee Senapati is a 1996 batch graduate in Film Direction form the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune. Since his graduation, he has been making mostly documentary films. His films have been screened at various international film festivals held in Germany, Mexico, Iran, and India. Besides filmmaking Maulee also teaches filmmaking and has contributed to several film journals on film related themes. He has taught and conducted workshops on filmmaking for the British Council, for Vatavaran, the most prestigious environmental film festival held in India, and also in Cotton College, Guwahati. Prior to filmmaking Maulee worked as a journalist with The Sentinel for five years.
