ABOUT THE EVENT:

Citizen Journalism is act of citizen playing an active role in the process of collecting, reporting, analyzing and disseminating news and information. It has put democracy back in people's hands. Citizen Journalists, equipped with mobile phones, portable cameras, and blog, are rapidly becoming alternative media as a reliable and wide-ranging source of information throughout the world. Citizen Journalism plays an important role on development of the society towards spreading information, unearthing corruption or just spreading news on anything happening in the community.

This is an event for professionals actively working with marginalised communities with experience in advocacy and campaigning, and regional or international networks. Workshop participants will be advocates, technologists, designers and strategists who have used OR PLAN TO USE technology tools and tactics in their campaigns. They need not be experts but need to have an aptitude for the use of technology tools and basic computer usage skills along with a track record of active involvement in rights advocacy initiatives. Participants whose work centres on the gathering, dissemination and design of information would benefit immensely.

Objective of the workshop:

Introduction and hands on experience of new media tools to grass root activists.

Participant's eligibility

  • Communication skills in English
  • Basic computer operation skills: Internet, email, word processing, etc.
  • All participants must be available throughout the event.

Please note:

  • Venue and date: Workshop venue will be informed to the participants by email and Phone/SMS.
  • Selection: Due to limited resources, only selected candidates will be invited to the workshop. So, please contact your nearest local organiser and apply for participation.
  • There will be no travel or accommodation allowances provided to the participants.
  • Food will provided at the venue.
  • There is a workshop participation fee; please contact the local organiser for details.

Audio:Programming for radio and Internet. Recording, editing, publishing online. We will also talk about Community Radio.
Video making:Planning, shooting, editing, publishing online (Youtube)
